Anil is a tall, lean 25-year-old man. It is easy to get along with him because he is simple, kind, and relaxed. Hari Singh comes to him looking for work, he agrees to keep him as a cook. Hari could not cook, but Anil still let him live with him and taught him how to read, write, and cook. Anil lets Hari live with him and teaches him how to read, write, and cook, even though he knows Hari can't cook. He writes for magazines. When he receives a cheque, he goes out and celebrates.

Anil knew all about the theft. He knew how and when Hari Singh stole the money and put it back under the mattress. Neither his lips nor his eyes showed anything about it. He didn't want to hand Hari Singh over to the police. It would have ruined him. He forgive him. He gives him fifty rupees and tells Hari that he will now be paid regularly. Hari saw a change in himself because Anil forgave him and loved him. He was Hari Singh's friend and guide, which also helped him change.

He has a specific modus operandi to steal money. He is a perfect example of how old habits die hard .He approaches Anil seeking a job with him. Hari Singh continues to cheat Anil by stealing his money while he is sent to the bazaar for daily supplies. He even robs Anil of his money and decides to run away. However, deep down, inside this deceitful young robber is a boy, who is willing and open to corrections and who doesn't mind being taught to cook. The eagerness to learn, to read and write is what brings him back to Anil. He misses the conversation with Anil and his friendship with him which comes across as more valuable to him than the money he steals. He is grateful to Anil for bringing about a change in him by educating him.
